Helping biotech research become commercial reality - Wilton Centre

We work closely with the Wilton Centre to help companies set up incubation facilities at the Innovation Accelerator on site, and it’s really beneficial that we can be in such close proximity to provide them with support.

Matthew Herbert, Marketing and Communications Manager at CPI

The Centre for Process Innovation (CPI) is a technology innovation centre that helps companies to develop products and processes from ideas and research into reality. After its establishment at the Wilton Centre in 2004, its success has led to rapid expansion, with the opening of a number of additional facilities across the North East of England. While the Wilton Centre site focusses on biotechnology – for instance, advanced fermentation of microbial products – the company now works across a broad range of sectors including pharma, medtech, agritech, electronics and energy.

Matthew Herbert, Marketing and Communications Manager at CPI, explained: “Our purpose is to help other businesses to succeed. We understand that taking an idea through to commercialisation can require a broad range of expertise, and so we build cross-functional teams, tailored to our partners’ needs, that will provide them with the most suitable technical support, facilities and guidance. This includes sharing valuable funding and business advice, as well as our proprietary innovation tools, to guide a project through to commercialisation. These factors, combined with our outstanding scientific expertise, help our partners to get more products to market faster, and at a lower cost.

“For an innovation to be successful, a complete supply chain is needed from raw materials to finished product, as well as a comprehensive pricing, sales and marketing strategy. This is why we employ bright minds from across academia and industry to match our partners’ evolving needs and help them to confidently navigate all the steps, from concept to commercial product. As part of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult, we can provide access to expertise in technical problem solving, scale-up advice, regulatory expertise, IP strategy and legal support.”

“We work closely with the Wilton Centre to help companies set up incubation facilities at the Innovation Accelerator on site, and it’s really beneficial that we can be in such close proximity to provide them with support. We have a great relationship with the Wilton team; they have been great over the years, and we look forward to continuing to help companies expand and grow,” concluded Matthew.
