A number of fundraising activities took place for this year’s Children in Need which raised an impressive £919.24. Former Wilton Centre resident Gillian Hayden- Smith returned once again to run a raffle and tombola. WCFM staff Rona Doolan, Sharon Norton, Ann Sherwood and the team at Medacs baked a range of cakes and savouries that they sold around the Centre in the week running up to the event. The refurbishment to the Gents toilet and locker room in TDA South laboratory is complete. Work is in progress on Main Reception, N, H and D Block Stairwells and the picnic tables at the rear of the restaurant. The Reception area refurbishment includes the installation of automatic sliding doors to aid access and a 60-inch display screen to replace the existing tenant board. The screen will have a varied content but will include all building tenants’ names and logos and news updates.
Sections of road and pathway surfaces around the centre are being re-surfaced including the pathways at the side of the lake, to the rear of the restaurant and at the visitor car park and access roads at the west side of the building, plus the road adjacent to the Development Building and the TDA north west access road.

The Instructions and Procedures section of the Wilton Centre website are now security-protected and will require users to log in using a valid username and password, which have been provided to Centre Business Managers. This log in-section will shortly be expanded to incorporate the Wilton Centre SHE performance database. Further developments will follow later this year and will include travel and local hotel information.
Planning permission has been obtained for the proposed Gym. Prices are being sought to carry out the redevelopment work to the ground floor of the restaurant block.
Refurbishment of mess rooms and ladies washrooms in TDA North and South Laboratories is complete and work on the South Laboratory Gents washroom will start shortly. Work is in progress to refurbish G3 and G2 corridors in the main building.
Wilton Centre Facilities Management has undergone its annual third party SHE Audit initiated by the building owners. The main theme of the audit, conducted in November last year, was Asbestos Management and Fire Safety Management. The auditors said: “On the whole, the site and areas inspected for asbestos were found to be in good order and the minor number of recommendations in this audit reflect this. The WCFM Management Team was found to be very professional in all areas of asbestos procedures and control.
Last year saw a significant reduction in the amount of waste sent to landfill from The Wilton Centre. In 2007, 27% of solid waste generated was sent for recycling, this increased to 41% last year.
Generous Centre residents donated 82 presents to the local Women’s Refuge at Christmas. They were donated as part of the Wilton Centre Facilities Management Presents Around The Tree initiative, which is held every year. The Women’s Refuge would like to thank everyone for their support.

The four-yearly electrical shut down of the Wilton Centre Main Building was completed over two weekends in October. Some critical supplies were maintained via existing back up supplies and temporary arrangements in order to minimise the impact on residents. Activities completed or in progress include: The work on the T Block ventilation systems has been reported in previous editions of the Wilton News and the predicted savings on power and heating have now been confirmed by analysis of the recent meter readings. It is planned to proceed with similar modification work on other laboratory blocks.

The Wilton Centre landlord is looking into the feasibility of providing a gymnasium facility on the premises. A questionnaire has been circulated to all residents and responses are being examined. Further consultation with residents will take place as appropriate.
A number of maintenance projects are planned over the next twelve months, including work to corridors, stairwells, toilets and coffee points, in addition to planned maintenance to the Centre’s fabric and plant.
