Wilton Centre event to focus on future for internet of things

March 2017

PragmatIC CTO Richard Price

An overview of the role flexible electronics is playing in making connectivity of everyday objects a reality is the subject of the second Wilton Wednesday event of 2017.

In a talk entitled 'Beyond silicon… Electronics for a flexible world', Richard Price, the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of PragmatIC, will present an overview of the journey his company has taken over the last six years tracking the technology development from concept to pilot scale production.

Everyone is talking about the internet of things; fridges that tell you when you’re running out of food, on-the-shelf packaging that communicates with your smartphone, food packaging that informs you when it’s not safe to eat.

All of these applications require lightweight, very low-cost electronic circuitry which can be integrated into the products to enable this connectivity. Without this innovation being developed by PragmatIC, the progress of this new and exciting era will be severely limited.

Richard has a 20-year career in technology commercialisation, with a particular focus on printed electronics and materials chemistry. Before his current role as CTO and co-founder of PragmatIC he was a Venture Manager at the University of Manchester Intellectual Property Ltd (UMIP). Here he led the creation of spin-out companies including CableSense, Arvia Technology and Nano ePrint.

Under his technical leadership, PragmatIC has secured over £5m of research and development grants (as part of projects worth more than £20m), as well as supporting a rapidly growing commercial revenue stream. The strength and depth of PragmatIC’s technical differentiation has been validated through more than £23m of investment including Cambridge Innovation Capital, ARM and Avery Dennison.

This free event, which includes lunch, takes place on Wednesday 15 March, 12:00 to 13:00 in the Farndale Room at the Wilton Centre. To reserve a place email: Steve.Spruce@wiltoncentre.co.uk
