Restaurant helps workers' New Year diets

January 2010

Workers based at the Wilton Centre wanting to lose all those extra pounds put on over Christmas will be assisted by a new scheme in their on site restaurant.

Taylor Shaw Catering, which operates the centre's catering services, has designed an information board that will contain the nutritional details of the menus and products served.

The display will give a breakdown of the calorific content, salt, sugar, carbohydrates, fat and saturated fat content for selected meals within the main servery and deli bar, enabling customers to make an informed choice of what to eat.

Director Andrew Hutchison said they were not telling diners what and what not to eat but giving them more information to help them make the right choices for their personal requirements.

"Everyone has different dietary needs, as well as likes and dislikes, and hopefully they will find this amount of detail useful," he added.

"They can then choose whether to go 'healthy' or reward themselves with an indulgent treat."

Wilton Centre Manager, Dave Willis said they were delighted to be able to offer the centre’s workforce a restaurant experience that was over and above the traditional service expected in such environments.

"When people buy their food from our restaurant, they will now know exactly what they are eating," he commented.

"At this time of year we suspect the diners may have had enough festive indulgences and be looking for less calorific food to alleviate their guilt," he added.

"Then again, they may want a treat to cheer themselves up after having to return to work after the holidays!"
