Health Round-up: Sessions a success

December 2009

The NHS offered Centre residents a free Healthy Heart Check at the end of October.

The aim was to identify people who may be at risk of having a stroke or developing heart disease and to help them lessen the risks.

Taking no more than 30 minutes, checks were carried out by Primary Care Trusts specialist nurses. Over the three days, 107 checks were conducted.

The event was part of the Tees Cardio Vascular Disease Primary (CVD) Prevention Programme, a public health initiative aimed at reducing premature deaths from a range of conditions.

Joanne Frain, the CVD Administrator for the programme, said: "We have had good feedback from the nurses. The event was well received."
