Wilton Centre resident DuPont Teijin Films has won a Queen's Award for work developing a groundbreaking polyester film.

The company was named a recipient of The Queen’s Award for Enterprise: Innovation 2008 - the UK’s most coveted business award.
DTF won the award for its patented range of Melinex® light-blocking polyester films.

The products, which have helped to revolutionise the way that images are prepared for point-of-sale, exhibition “pop-up” and banner stands, were created at DTF’s Global Technology Centre and manufactured in Dumfries, Scotland.

John Miller, European President, said: “It’s a great honour to win such an award. We see innovation, along with service, as a way to differentiate ourselves from our competition and, in turn, help our customers win in their chosen market place. Our light-blocking films are a perfect example of this.

“Our business model has innovation at its core and the activities at Wilton, together with those of our technical and manufacturing people at our plants in Luxembourg and Dumfries who bring these products to life, are our future.”

Inaugurated in 1966 as The Queen’s Award to Industry, the award was renamed The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise and is divided into international trade, innovation and sustainable development categories.

The Queen selects the awards each year, on the advice of the Prime Minister who is assisted by an Advisory Committee that includes representatives of government, industry and commerce, and trade unions.

DTF also received the award in 2003 for its unique development for the global identity card market.
