The Centre for Process Innovation (CPI) has reinforced its position in the processing sector by announcing a merger with an organisation with a proven track record in nanotechnology.

CPI, which is based at The Wilton Centre, has joined forces with the Centre of Excellence for Nano, Micro and Photonic Systems (Cenamps), as it works to become a centre of international importance.

The centre is championing four key technology areas that offer sustainable and commercial potential for the UK, including advanced processes, low carbon energy, functional materials and printable electronics.

Employing a team of high-calibre scientists and skilled staff, it already operates the National Industrial Biotechnology Facility, a facility for bringing forward cleaner, greener and more cost-efficient manufacturing methods in developing biotechnology applications to the chemical and pharmaceutical sectors.

The organisation is also at the heart of the UK’s drive to bring new sustainable energy sources into use through its Fuel Cells Application Facility.

CEO Nigel Perry said of the decision to join forces with Cenamps: “The merger is a highly positive move for CPI, seeing the organisation define its innovation focus into four core areas, facilitating the translation of scientific research into commercial reality.

“The centre will continue in its collaborative approach, partnering with industry and academia, acknowledging market needs and making ready new technologies for commercial use.“
