Work is pressing ahead on the Innovation Accelerator Incubator, a 10,000 sq ft facility incorporating specialist laboratories and office space at The Wilton Centre.

The first resident has already signed up for the new development, which has been designed by WCFM and the CPI Innovation Accelerator team, to support new businesses working in the science, technology, engineering and life sciences sectors.

BioInnovel, a provider of monitoring and control technologies, has been lined up to take residence when the incubator is completed at the end of the year.

The company, which was founded in Cambridge in 2006, develops and commercialises rheology sensors and predictive optimal control software for bio-processes in the Pharmaceutical, Environmental, and Agro-Food industries worldwide.

The sensors measure the mechanical properties of industrial bio- cultures using non-destructive ultrasonic testing. BioInnovel’s sensing technology can benefit R&D facilities through faster scale-up of new drugs and the plant operation of end-user bio-manufacturers.

One of the reasons the company has decided to move has been the presence in the Incubator of market sector specialists from CPI’s Innovation Accelerator team.

BioInnovel Technical Director Joanna Vlahopoulou said: “We are delighted to have moved to The Wilton Centre, and we look forward to taking up space in the new Incubator early next year.

“The collaboration with CPI will contribute to our company’s strategic growth as it will bring us nearer to the bio-industry customer base, and support the validation of our sensing technologies.”

As the incubator is not due for completion until the end of the year BioInnovel have taken up residence in temporary laboratory and office space at Wilton Centre.

When it is completed, the Incubator will have ten specialist laboratory/pilot plant units, with associated equipped communal laboratories and meeting rooms, as well as office space.
