Lucite International won the Chemical Industries Association Innospec Innovation award for its new process for the manufacture of methyl methacrylate (MMA).

Honoured at a dinner in Edinburgh, Lucite's award-winning Alpha process was born of a desire to address the limitations of existing processes and involved ten years of research and development.

Based on readily available materials, the process avoids the need for hazardous ingredients and also avoids the requirement for expensive waste treatment.

Lucite's Alpha technology was developed and piloted by a team of engineers and scientists in the Wilton Centre semi-tech facilities.

The first Alpha plant was built at Jurong Island in Singapore and successfully commissioned in November 2008.
