Work is proceeding to develop the biotechnology industry in the north east.
Many north east companies are interested in developing the Biorefinery concept and work to establish the National Industrial Biotechnology facility has now been completed.
NEPIC has been working alongside partners One NorthEast, CPI, Renew Tees Valley and North East Biofuels to bring the project to fruition on Teesside.
Chris Dowle, of CPI, said: “This £5m facility will soon be working to produce new products and methods of manufacture which will add significantly to the existing chemistry set on Teesside.”
There has already been significant progress in the field. New companies are coming into the region all the time, encouraged by the activities of organisations like Renew Tees Valley in securing renewable energy investment.
And the North East Biofuels Consortium, which includes farmers and agricultural partners, has already started work on developing a unique approach to the development of a sustainable industry.
