The Reverend Rachel Harrison has taken up her posting as industrial chaplain for the Wilton Centre.

She has been appointed by the Church of England as part of the Tees Valley Ministry, an ecumenical organisation that oversees the work of chaplains in the workplace in Teesside and South Durham.

Rachel said: “The role of an industrial chaplain is not to try to ‘convert’ people but to be an objective friend in the workplace, a friend who will listen in confidence, without passing any judgment, a friend who can act as facilitator between two parties who are in dispute and a friend who can encourage and be available when needed.”

Recently, a small group of Christians who work at the Wilton Centre, joined together to set up an ‘Alpha in the Workplace’ course exploring the Christian faith. It was a weekly lunchtime activity lasting for an hour each time.

Rachel said: “I was pleased to be able to support Mike Ducker and friends as they organised and ran the course.”

Following the success of the pilot, another course will commence with an introductory event on 14th November 12.15 - 1.00pm in the Roseberry Room.
